Introducing more blogs I love for 2013

Wednesday, 2 January 2013

I don't know about you but part of the reason I set up this blog was to 'meet' other bloggers. I think it's why I prefer it to Twitter because I like reading more than 140 characters about what someone thinks.

It is surprisingly hard to find other good baby/parenting blogs. Design and fashion blogs are so easy to find but really good parenting blogs that cover other stuff too are actually a little tricky to find and who has time to wade through Top Baby Blogs or similar?

So I thought I'd try to regularly post new and/or awesome blogs I discover in the hope that it helps you find more too (if you're looking for them). These 4 are all run by mamas but as and when I find others I'll post them too.

with grace & eve

I can't remember how I found Elisa's blog but I find her posts comforting. If you're a regular to these pages you'll know 2012 hasn't been my easiest year. I like reading Eliza's words, they remind me of some of the meditation stuff I like to do. I also like that she's not afraid to talk about uncomfortable thoughts, it's not all super pretty fluff which I'm not such a fan of these days.

it's the little things

I discovered Amanda on Instagram and just adore following her sweet photos of her family life. I guess Amanda's blog would fall under the lifestyle blog category but instead of being a little too perfect as I find blogs like Rockstar Diaries and so on, Amanda feels real and normal, in a good way. I find it a bit sad when bloggers get huge and somehow then become like a real life copy of Vogue. I prefer a little realism in the blogs I follow.

Sometimes Sweet

A new discovery but I instantly like it. An unpretentious honest account of family life by Arizona mama Danielle. It's a family blog about 'real' life, not just glossy photos. Plus this family has some rather epic tattoos among them.

Peonies and Polaroids

I met Cara once a good couple of years ago when her twins were teeny tiny. I remember thinking how calm and collected she seemed despite having little ones. Now I have one little one I am even more impressed. I find myself drawn to Cara's for two reasons: her photography, okay she's a pro but still I am jealous, and the way she writes. I like that there's no bullshit, she doesn't make out life's all sunshine and fairies all the time. As you may have guessed I like the real life kind of blogs, and this is definitely one of those.

My google reader is still looking a little sparse since I did a big cull so pretty please send me your blog recommendations, especially family/baby ones. I do so love reading about other peoples' lives! Yes, yes, I am nosy.

  1. Thank you so much Josie. Any impression of calm and collectedness that evening was an act, I was so stressed out! At least for the first half of the night, until I'd had a couple of glasses of wine.

  3. Thanks for the recommendations. I also find it really hard to find blogs that I really enjoy- I have hundreds on my RSS feed but only probably about 30 that I really enjoy. I enjoy ones about parenting, real life, photography and just generally that have a certain style about them. I am not picky at all. ;)
Yours is one I am very glad to have found.

  6. oh, I'm excited to look at these. I also had a reader full of design / current affairs / wedding blogs etc and now I have a kid I don't know anything about baby/parenting blogs, especially in the UK and don't really know where to look. I like Sarah Illustrator and Blue Milk is quite a different, parenting / feminist blog.

Also, STFU Parents, if that counts? ;)

and I really like Peonies & Polaroids already, but will definitely check out the others.

    Thanks for sharing.

  7. Ooo thanks for these, have been reading a few 'perfect life' blogs and feel I need a dose of reality to stop me feeling like bad mum for calling my child 'it' every so often!

    Thank you! Han x

  9. Thanks for the recommendations. I agree, it's hard to find blogs you have an affinity with, esp baby blogs. Not specifically a baby blog (although they have just had a v cute buba) but have you read junkaholic? Worth a look.

  10. Hello there! I just stumbled upon your blog via Tigerlilly Quinn (which I also just stumbled on today). I totally agree that it is hard to find good mom/lifestyle blogs. It's The Little Things is one of my all time favourites, and I always read Amanda's posts first. I'm looking forward to getting to know you, and your blog, better:) Erika from TheLindenLife
